About Us

Hi, we're Nikola Uzelac and Thomas Forrest, the co-founders of tinyCFO.

We met at a university software club about ten years ago and have been close friends ever since. We've always loved building things together, and we've always been a little obsessed with personal finance. Long before this was our job, we were the guys staying up late tweaking spreadsheets, tracking our net worth, hunting for tax savings, and forecasting cash flow just for fun.

Nikola started his career as a software engineer at American Express on the dashboard team. He built consumer finance tools that millions of people used every day, like spend history, expense management, and that satisfying real-time flow where an uploaded receipt instantly matches back to the right transaction. Later at Clear Street he created portfolio tools for family offices and institutional funds, giving them clearer views of sector exposure and how their entire book fit together. He also shipped production-grade systems at Gemini and Magna (YC W22).

Thomas began at Stripe in San Francisco, where he built the back-office systems that powered risk and financial crimes operations for tens of thousands of merchants every single day. Then at Ramp, as a product engineer, he owned both the user-facing side and the backend that set billions of dollars in customer credit limits, working hand-in-hand with product, design, and data science teams.

Even after all that, we still found ourselves reaching for messy spreadsheets to answer the simplest questions about our own money. So we decided to build the tool we always wished existed.
